Mark Zuckerberg is globally known for being the founder and CEO of social networking website Facebook.com
His journey into programming began as a 12-year-old kid, wanting to make the life of his dentist dad and his employees easier and convenient, for which he developed a programme ZuckNet which enabled the receptionist to communicate directly about the patients in queue to his dad inside his dental room.
Soon, his inherent talent of working with computers, software and programmes were recognized by his family, tutors, and peers.
He completed his schooling from Ardsley High School, New York after which he attended Philips Exeter Academy, before entering the Harvard University, followed by Mercy College. Undoubtedly, his excellent academics enabled him to think out of the box at every step in his life. Although, he was a not a book-worm.
He currently lives in Palo Alto, California in a luxurious home which he had bought in the year 2011 for around $7 million.
He initially registered the domain name thefacebook.com and started the website in the year 2004 on February 4, in a dormitory room of Harvard University along with his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes.
Before getting the idea of Facebook, he developed a software called Facemash which allowed the students of his college to choose the best-looking person in the programme. Finally, the idea of building facebook.com came up after they got inspired from the Face Books kept in their room which had pictures of all the students who lives in the dormitory.
Thus, Facebook began for fun, as a dating site, to enable boys and girls of the campus to meet each other and start dating, choose who looks hot and rank them on the basis of their looks.
Did you know? after their site went online and participation of college students began on the website, the Campus authorities banned and shut it down as the site caused server load on the internet and lots of students accused them of using their photos without permission. A big drama was created on the campus. Little did Mark Zuckerberg realize that this was just the beginning of creating the number one website of the world.
After the site moved in the direction of social networking, his friends accused him of misleading them as Mark had earlier promised to build a dating site for Harvard. The dispute escalated and finally, a settlement was reached for 1.2 million Facebook shares.
In the second year, he left Harvard and focussed himself completely on his social networking project. His aim was to give the world something they have never had before but deserve to have. Amazingly, in 2017, Harvard gave him an honorary degree.
He soon started receiving offers from top companies like Microsoft, Yahoo etc. but he declined them all. These companies even tried to acquire Facebook for as high as $600 million. But Mark was all set to create history. He had already risen above profit and revenues and perhaps was ready to shake the world.
The founder and CEO feel that his site is not a waste of time, rather helps in building a better community.
He is ok with being called a hacker, he is ok with breaking things up for something better.
Mark soon started ranking amongst the top influential people of the world since his website was rampantly transcending all boundaries, visitors across the globe were becoming a part of facebook thus his popularity and influence were climbing.
Did you know? he is partially color blind and can see the color blue perfectly, which became the reason for keeping the theme of the site as blue.
